Like many of his generation, Steve and his older
brother Jeff began playing guitar after hearing
“I Want To Hold Your Hand” in 1964. Along
with “The Beatles,” his early influences were
Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton. He
played his first gig in an acoustic duo at the Pizza
King in Shreveport in 1972. Over the next fifteen
years he played at social functions and private
parties. He has recorded a number of original tunes
written by his good friend and talented song writer
Mike Rabourn. Job demands and other interests
took him away from music for ten years until, in
1996, he met Jerry Mathews. It was Jerry who
got Steve back into music by persuading him to join
the choir and music ensemble at St. Jude Catholic
Church.
